Tatarstan energy holding is among the first hundred of the biggest companies of Russia. According to recently published rating of the agency "RosBusinessConsulting", based on the earnings of the companies for 2005, JSC "Tatenergo" ranked third among the country power engineering companies after the RAO "UES Russia" and "Mosenergo".

The year of 2002 becomes the year of reforming of "PEO "Tatenergo". From the beginning of the year the restructuring of the power system of Tatarstan was under way, as well as separation of the non-core activities, in the first hand, bringing of the repair facilities on the market. In February the Government of Tatarstan approves the program of "Tatenergo" privatization - privatization of the only state-run power company in Russia - and in spring the company was converted into the Public Stock Company. Apart from the parent company there were registered the three subsidiary PSC’s: "Generation Company", which founders are the largest heat and electricity consumers of the Republic, including the Stock Company "Nizhnekamskneftehim" and "Kazanorgsintez", "Grid Company" and "Dispatch Center" with the co-founder - the Stock Company "Òàòneft".
In the end of February there was held the meeting in Kazan of the regional board of representative office of RAO "UES Rossii", in the course of the meeting there ware highly appreciated the activities of "Tatenergo", the stability regarding finance and engineering policy, and efficient approach to business, especially in the area of energy conservation.
The managers of power systems of Republics of the Volga region start studying the experience of the Tatarstan power system on entrance upon the market and utilization of ASKUE.

In May after commissioning of the digital telephone exchange of the central corporate communication station, the project of the corporate integrated communication system of "Tatenergo" reaches its final stage. In November there was commissioned the system of the dispatch communication, which allows to control the power system on basis of the new high informational technologies. In July JSC "Tatenergo" commissions at its power stations the computerized system for commercial metering of gas – ASKUG and starts the works for its utilization in the regional boiler houses, a next stage in realization of program of energy conservation and reduction of costs for energy generation.
In November 2002, at the meeting of Directors Board there were approved the approaches to further reforming of the power system, specifically, establishment on base of the service divisions of JSC "Tatenergo" of the legal entities with transfer of the assets of the power company to their authorized capital stocks. At the same meeting the decision was taken to establish the permanent Arbitration energy court as part of JSC "Tatenergo" for settling the relationships between the power company and the large heat and electricity consumers.

In November the first in the power system tender for selection of the supplier of the variable drive for Naberezhnye Chelny CO-GENERATION PLANT was held, at which tender there participated 9 Russian companies, presenting the products of the leading foreign producers, the tender won the company "ZAO "Vacon Drives" (Moscow). At the same month at Kazan CO-GENERATION PLANT-2 there was done reconstruction of the power boiler, which can be fired by coal. In the course of reconstruction in the old housing there was mounted the practically new hi- tech boiler, allowing the computerized monitoring of combustion and nitrogen oxide emissions.
The other significant event of the year related to commissioning at the "Tatenergo" Kazan heating grids of the shop of the projected capacity 10 th. linear meters a year of the foam polyurethane "shells" for insulating the heat lines of diameter thru 1220 mm. Their utilization would allow to reduce the heat losses and the expenses for the heating grids repair by over two times.

Program of costs reduction, system of metering of electricity and heat, gas, audit and repair, presented by JSC "Tatenergo" at the regional exhibition "Power Engineering. Resource Conservation -2002" were awarded the Honor chart of Tatarstan Republic and Diploma of the exhibition. Basing on the annual accomplishments the three managers of "JSC "Tatenergo" branches, namely, director of Kazan electricity grids, Mr. I.H. Gaifullin, director of Kazan heating grids, Mr. F.F. Fairushin and director of Kazan CO-GENERATION PLANT-3, Mr. I.À. Zakirov were awarded the title of Laureates All-Russia competetion "Manager year", organized between the People’s Academy of Management and Voluntary Economical Society of Russia and sponsored by Council of Federation of Federal Meeting of RF. À chief engineer JSC "Tatenergo" Y.V. Shchelokov and chief engineer of Naberezhnye Chelny CO-GENERATION PLANT, Mr. V.À. Vasiliev became Laureates of All-Russia competetion "Engineer of the Year".
